We spent almost a week anchored off Whale Cay with Little
Whale just across the inlet. Little Whale is privately owned and transients are
not invited to come ashore, but you can see it online and even stay there for a
cool $10K and up per night. You’d want to fly in of course and you’d better
have a plane good for short take offs and landings. Look closely at the bottom
left of the picture. How about this for an interesting final approach!
The much larger Whale Cay is uninhabited and is for sale.
There’s a sandy road with ATV tracks that no doubt go to the
other end of the island where an airstrip is and we walked some of the road.
The road was totally inland, so not terribly scenic, but the view from one side road
to a hilltop gave a nice view of Double Life.
It was getting close to Christmas so I spent a little time
playing in the sand on a nice beach.
We took the dinghy over to yet another nearby uninhabited
island where we snorkeled. On rounding this jetty with the gulls on it, it was
l bit like entering a small aquarium. In addition to fish there are a lot of
rays here and I saw three very large ones resting together on the bottom, all
sand-covered but their eyes which looked like something out of “20,000 Leagues
Under the Sea.” Sorry no pictures, but I’ll eventually take the underwater
camera on a snorkel trip.
We bid adieu to Whale and Little Whale on December 22nd
and headed to Nassau.
